Meeting for worship is the heart of the Religious Society of Friends. In meeting for worship individuals gather in prayer and silence, waiting expectantly on the Spirit. In worship we seek a union of the hearts of all present as we search for Truth.

Vocal ministry arises out of this silent worship. Vocal ministry is more than a mere urge to share a personal observation. It is a spontaneous outpouring that occurs when an individual experiences inward and outward signs prompting the sharing of a message from the Source. In vocal ministry Friends strive to be clear and direct, and to speak as briefly as is needed to convey the message. Out of our own experience with the Divine, Friends share insights with fellow worshippers or offer praise or prayer or song. Friends then take time to ponder a message’s meaning before another rises to speak.

Meetings for worship may have spoken messages or not. Either can nourish, guide and comfort us. What we seek in worship is stillness that can open to the deep place where the loving Spirit dwells.

In-Person Meetings

At 10:00 on Sunday mornings, Bridge City Friends Meeting begins our meetings for worship by singing from Worship in Song hymnal for fifteen minutes. By 10:15 we settle into centering worship. If children are present for Children’s Program activities, two adults and the children will leave worship around 10:30.

Around 11:15 a member of the Ministry and Pastoral Care Committee will close worship by shaking hands, and attendees will shake hands with their fellow worshippers while greeting them. We circle the room with introductions and announcements, then continue fellowship with snacks and beverages.

Adult Education

We commonly schedule a second hour of adult education following fellowship on the second Sunday of the month. Our monthly business meetings, also held in a worship setting, usually take place on the third Sundays following fellowship time.
